We love having parents attend games and training, and have a few simple rules to keep things fun for everyone:
- We’re big believers in the idea that you should let the game be the teacher. Children will learn far more quickly from experience and from playing the game than they will from trying to take on instructions from the sidelines. Let’s just let them enjoy playing.
- Respect the coaches, and let them coach without interruptions. Parental coaching from the sidelines, however well-meaning, can be distracting, confusing, and even stressful for the children.
- Please keep your comments during play to positive encouragement, rather than shouting instructions or criticism.
- Respect the referees, and set a good example for your children by respecting the officials and their decisions. Like the coaches, they’re usually volunteers who are giving their time for free.
- Keep things positive when talking about players, coaches, and other parents. The other team and their parents aren’t the enemy and we should try to be polite and friendly at all times.
- Be a good sport, whether we’re winning or losing. Celebrate good play by both teams. Show your kids that while it’s great to win, it’s also ok to lose, we all make mistakes, and teamwork and effort is more important than the final score.
