The Blaze took a trip down to Wembley last weekend to watch the Lionesses v USA. It was a long way to get down to London and back in a day, but the girls loved watching their national women.
The looks on the girls’ faces when we walked out into the stadium was wonderful. The sights, the light-show, noise, the cheering, the smells — you could tell that some life goals were being set that day.
And it’s incredible to think that it’s only just a hundred years since the FA banned women’s football completely, stating
The game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged.
I think we showed them 😎
It’s been amazing to watch the women’s game grow in popularity, and it was really inspirational for our girls to see such a busy stadium packed with Lioness fans.
The game itself wasn’t the most exciting, unfortunately, being a nil-nil draw, but we all enjoyed watching the Lionesses’ tight passing game — definitely something we hope to replicate when we get back on the pitch!
