Play football. Score goals. Make friends.
The Weetwood Blaze is a football club for girls between 7 and 11.
We’re inclusive, competitive and enthusiastic. We play for the enjoyment of the game, to develop our skills, and to make friends. We’re big on teamwork, respect and fair play.
The Blaze welcomes all abilities, from the total newcomer to much more experienced players. Some of our brilliant players hadn’t even kicked a ball a year ago!
We field three teams in the Harrogate & Craven League: Under 9s, 10s and 11s.
where and when?
Training is on Fridays at Sports Park Weetwood. We play matches in the Harrogate & Craven League most Saturday mornings. Our home ground is at Richmond House School in Weetwood. Away matches can be as far afield as Skipton, or just up the road in Bramhope. We try to share lifts.

People often ask us why our badge says “established 1989” when we’re a relatively new club.
Back in 1989 there was a girl called Rachel who loved football. Rachel, along with a handful of her friends, persuaded her parents to start a Saturday morning kickabout on the Weetwood school playground.
Rachel turned out to be very good at football. She joined the Guiseley Dynamos, the only girl on a team of boys, and went on to play for Leeds United and Leeds City Vixens. She was known on the pitch as Tunny, and she was a real-life trailblazer.
Sadly, Rachel’s life came to an end when she was only 20, cutting short what promised to be a great footballing career. But the Saturday morning kickabout she started has continued to this day, and it was girls from those Saturday morning sessions who played the first match as the Weetwood Blaze.
So our club badge displays the Hook lighthouse in Wexford, a place she loved, and celebrates Rachel’s life and inspirational passion for football.
